Once you program in your desired parameters, the coffee machine will brew coffee and espresso using these exact settings until you change them.
Espresso Preparation
Let’s move on to one of the elephants in the room: the question of whether this compact version of a fully automatic coffee machine can deliver excellent espresso in your cup?
How do I adjust the coffee strength and volume on the Melitta CAFFEO Solo?
You can adjust both the coffee strength and volume:
- To adjust the volume (dispensed quantity), turn the coffee quantity regulator 3. After all, that is Melitta’s claim and the reason the Caffeo Solo exists.
Unfortunately, this way of thinking is misguided, as we must never forget that a super automatic espresso machine and a drip coffee machine have two completely different preparation principles.
A fully automatic coffee machine cannot make drip coffee, and a regular filter coffee machine cannot make espresso.
After that, reinsert the brewing unit and ensure it is correctly locked into place.
For more information, see page 13of the manual. It is recommended to adjust this after about 1000 coffee preparations.
What do the indicator lights and symbols on the Melitta CAFFEO Solo signify?
The indicator lights and symbols on the Melitta CAFFEO Solo display the appliance's status:
- [Power symbol] Illuminated: The appliance is ready for operation.
- [Power symbol] Flashing: The appliance is heating up or coffee is being dispensed.

- [Descaling symbol] Illuminated: Descale the appliance.

To be honest, you can’t really go wrong with either machine, so perhaps it’ll come down to a coin toss!

Fortunately, the milk wand doubles as a hot water dispenser.
So, of course, the question remains as to whether the Melitta Caffeo Solo could replace your classic drip coffee machine? If it doesn’t, this category of machine makes no sense at all.
As we have since discovered, there’s little to worry about here. Each cartridge lasts about three months based on average metropolitan limescale levels.
The Melitta Caffeo Solo in Use
One great thing about the Melitta Caffeo Solo is that even beginners will have no problem getting great results out of the machine.
I have to say, I do agree with their logic and wouldn’t think of it as over the top to do so.
That said, if you find this cost prohibitive or simply inconvenient, you’ll have to decide which style of coffee you want to wake up to each morning.

Melitta Caffeo Solo Cleaning
Unfortunately, I don’t have any viable statistics at hand on whether milk or coffee residue is responsible for the majority of all error messages or filthy coffee machines.
In between, there are buttons for single-cup brewing, double-cup brewing and setting the coffee strength.
That’s all. Even at first glance, this chic little machine shows off its advantages in terms of size.
To make them fit into the confines of a compact machine, all of the parts that require filling — the bean hopper, water tank and drip tray — will seem somewhat petite.
You should not use any ground, glazed, caramelised, or otherwise sugar-coated coffee beans.
For more information, see page 7of the manual. The price per cartridge will set you back $30.74, though it’s less costly to indulge in the three-pack.Current price on Amazon Check price

All specifications One thing is clear: if you expect to get the perfect latte macchiato or flat white from your machine, the Melitta Caffeo Solo might not be the best choice.
Featuring notes of chocolate and hazelnut, our Espresso Blend is particularly low in acidity, making it easy on the stomach.
Here’s how we recommend setting up your DeLonghi Magnifica S for the perfect cup of coffee:
Grind setting: 1 (Attention: Only adjust when the grinder is running!)
Espresso volume: 1 ounce (30 milliliters).
However, the Melitta’s steam wand is rather flimsy and lacking in the pressure department. Also, empty the drip tray and empty the coffee grounds container.
- To clean the brewing unit, which is recommended once a week:
Switch off the appliance.
Pull off the cover 11 to the right.
Press and hold the red button on the handle of the brewing unit (Image B, 1).
Turn the handle clockwise until the stop.
Pull the brewing unit out of the appliance by the handle.
Rinse the brewing unit thoroughly on all sides with clear water, ensuring the area shown in Image D (arrow) is free of coffee residues.
Let the brewing unit drip dry.
Remove coffee residues from the appliance.
Insert the brewing unit back into the appliance, press and hold the red button (Image B, 1), and turn the handle counterclockwise until the stop.
Insert the cover until it clicks in.
- The integrated cleaning programme (about 15 minutes) removes residues and coffee oil that hand cleaning cannot.
This is indicated by 1 to 3 beans on display 9.
- Brewing temperature: You can set the brewing temperature to one of three levels (low, medium, or high). However, keep in mind that you only have to set the grinder to the finest setting once. My name is Arne.
How often should I descale my Melitta CAFFEO Solo coffee maker?
The descaling programme should be performed every 3 months, or at the latest when the descaling symbol illuminates.
For more information, see page 10of the manual.Sure, you could, of course, still buy a “complete” machine.
