The limited company was founded in 1893 by Carl Gehrman.

Threads to 1802

The publisher's threads go back in time to the pioneering days of Swedish music publishers and sheet music dealers in the early 1800s. Gehrmans Muiskforlag, an outstanding firm among international music publishers, was founded in 1893 by twenty-year-old Carl Gehrman, who published mostly popular genres of the time.

Vi känner starkt att det är särskilt meningsfullt att sprida bra konst just nu. During the 1990s, Fazer also became the publisher of Estonian composers such as Veljo Tormis and Erkki-Sven Tüür. In 1930 Carl Gehrmans Musikforlag was bought by Inge and Einar Rosenborg. Further expansion in the company’s classical sheet music publishing were carried out in 2007 when Gehrmans acquired the orchestral, chamber, and choral music catalogs of Warner/Chappell Music Scandinavia.

The range was strengthened in 2015 through the acquisition of the publisher Lutfisken, which has published instrumental schools and materials for schools and preschools.

Although popular music was still the cornerstone of the company, orchestral music was becoming an integral part of the business as well. Gehrmans today represents many of the country's leading composers and music educators. Later, among others, Leevi Madetoja, Yrjö Kilpinen and Einojuhani Rautavaara were added. The company's roots go back to 1897 when Fazer Musik was founded by Konrad Georg Fazer.

Today Gehrmans has established itself as one of the leading publishers in the Nordic countries. – Det är en stor ära att få Regeringens hedersomnämnande, säger Gehrmans VD Filiz Erat Edhlund. Besides composers already mentioned, Gehrmans publishes works by Erland von Koch, Daniel Bortz, Hans Eklund, Fredrik Hogberg, Maurice Karkoff, Thomas Jennefelt, and Nils Lindberg, just to name a few.
