And Eagle eyed fans spotted that Rudiger continued his new look while representing Germany at the Euro 2020.
But why has he gone back to wearing a mask this time round?

Antonio Rudiger is wearing a mask courtesy of another horror facial injury he sustained in a Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.
The German international bravely threw himself at a stoppage time cross to beat goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin to the ball, heading it into the net.
But Rudiger colliding with Trubin in the process which saw both players needing immediate attention.
Trubin required bandaging before the game could continue while Ruidger had to be escorted off the pitch as he had lost a huge amount of blood through an open wound which ran all down his shirt.
And it had been reported that Rudiger required approximately 20 stitches to seal the open cut.
What has been said?
Reports from Spain claim that Rudiger has undergone tests to see if he has suffered a fractured skull.
But the Real Madrid star kept his spirits high by posting an image on Instagram during the plane journey home saying: “We alive.”
Rudiger, 29, also tweeted: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Rüdiger is not a superhero on the side (that we know of) and nor is he cos-playing as Bain (”no one cared who I was until I put in the mask”): There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why he’s wearing the mask.

The mask was constructed to protect the player’s facial bones, preventing potential further damage in light of a recent injury sustained amid Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final clash against Real Madrid.

Ironically, Antonio Ruidger suffered a facial injury against his current team Real Madrid when he representing Chelsea.
The German received a blow to his face from Alvaro Odriozola towards the end of their Champions League clash.
And it had been claimed to of ruptured a bone on the side of his face forcing Rudiger to wear a protective mask.

The defender received a blow to the face during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League in April.
Rudiger wore a protective mask for the remainder of Chelsea’s games until the end of the season.
And the 28-year-old has continued to wear the mask in all of Germany’s Euro 2020 matches so far.
‘It’s still there for protection,’ Rudiger said earlier this month.
‘I’ll have to see what the Chelsea doctors say when I get back to London.’
Germany’s Euro 2020 campaign got off to a poor start after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to France.
But Joachim Low’s side got back on track with a 4-2 victory over Portugal in their second game in Group F.
In their final group fixture, Germany were on the brink of elimination before Leon Goretzka’s late goal rescued a 2-2 draw against Hungary.
That result secured Germany’s second-placed finish in Group F, which meant they face England, who won group D, in the last-16 clash at Wembley.

Antonio Rudiger is wearing a face mask for Germany’s entire Euro 2020 campaign due to suffering an injury at Chelsea.
The defender received a blow to the face during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League at the end of April.
Following his recovery, Rudiger wore a protective mask for the remainder of Chelsea’s fixtures until the end of the season.
And the 28-year-old will continue wearing the mask for the duration of Germany’s Euro 2020 tournament until he meets back up with Chelsea’s medical staff.
‘It’s still there for protection,’ Rudiger said before Germany’s defeat to France.
‘I’ll have to see what the Chelsea doctors say when I get back to London.’
Germany were beaten by France in their opening Group F fixture.
Joachim Low’s side also face Portugal and Hungary in the group.
